Most couples want a wedding favour that means something. The trouble is that many favours end up forgotten on the table at the end of the night. Live guest drawings take a different approach: instead of giving every guest the same small gift, you give each of them something made just for them, drawn by hand while your wedding is happening.
What are live wedding guest drawings?
A live wedding illustrator sets up a small portrait station at your wedding and draws your guests one by one. Guests stop by during the drinks reception or evening celebrations, sit for a few minutes, and leave with their own finished portrait. It is entertainment and a favour in one, and it gives your day a calm, creative focal point that suits every age.
At my Portrait Booth, each portrait is drawn by hand on premium postcard-sized card, so it is easy for guests to carry home and simple to frame.

Why a guest portrait makes a unique wedding favour
- It is personal. Every guest receives a portrait of themselves, not a generic gift.
- It is something to keep. A hand-drawn portrait is a keepsake worth framing, rather than something that gets left behind.
- It entertains your guests. Watching a portrait come to life gives guests something to enjoy and talk about, especially during gaps between the ceremony, speeches and dinner.
- It suits every guest. Grandparents, friends, children and couples can all take part.
- It works alongside everything else. A quiet portrait station fits in around your photographer and videographer, so it never competes with the rest of the day.
Watercolour or line drawing: which style?
I offer two styles for wedding guest portraits.
Line drawings are elegant, modern and understated. They work beautifully for minimalist, contemporary or black-and-white wedding styles.
Watercolour portraits add soft colour and a more romantic, painterly feel. They suit garden, barn and country house weddings, and they can echo your colour palette.

How live guest drawings work on the day
Before your wedding we talk through your timings, guest numbers and preferred style. On the day I set up an illustration station that blends into your venue. Guests visit individually, as couples or in small groups, and each finished portrait is displayed for them to collect. Over the course of the day, the display grows into a gallery of your guests.
Most portraits take around 5 to 8 minutes, depending on how many people are being drawn. As a rough guide, that means a 2.5-hour line drawing package leaves time for around 19 to 30 portraits if guests sit one at a time, and more if they come as couples or small groups.
When to schedule your guest portraits
Many couples place live drawings during the drinks reception, when guests are mingling and waiting for the next part of the day. Others choose the evening celebrations to keep guests entertained between dinner and the dancing. The more guests you have, the more hours you will want to book, so it helps to think about timing early.

Frequently asked questions
Can live drawings replace traditional wedding favours?

Where do you work?
I am based near Leeds and provide live wedding guest portraits across Yorkshire, including Leeds, York, Harrogate, Wetherby, Ripon, Ilkley and the Yorkshire Dales. I also travel throughout the UK on request.
